Counseling the Bohemian
Timeline: MD6 Midday
Brianthe didn't think she needed to see a counselor. She was fine, as far as she was concerned, but Starfleet did not quite agree with her. So, she walked into counseling to see if she could get her mental evaluation out of the way.
"Can I help you?" Liam's redhead receptionist Holly asked the women who had just walked in. She appraised her. Small slip of a thing except there was some sort of etheral presence about her. She was almost fairy like. It made her worry for a moment. What if it was a Fae in disguise. Up to something. But then, they had cleared out hadn't they?
"I have an appointment with the counselor," Brianthe said, smiling at the receptionist.
"Which one?" Holly asked.
"Umm...Reynolds, I believe," Brianthe said.
Holly smiled. She could of bet money on it being Liam. He was midway through it seemed evaluating all the starfleet staff on the base. And the marines. Not that she was complaining about that. Some of the new marine detachment were rather nice on the eye. Big muscles, flirty, could bench press a shuttle no doubt ..... she shuddered realising her imagination was running away with her. "I'll just notify him your here."
Liam recieved the message and got up to go greet the lady waiting. "Ensign, welcome. Counselor Reynolds. Feel free to call me Liam. Shall we?" he indicated his office.
"Hi," she smiled. "I'm Brianthe."
"Would you like any refreshment before we start?" he asked politely.
"Can I have a glass of white wine?" she asked.
Liam grinned. "Synth sure. The real thing Im afraid not." He went to the replicator. "Any preference?"
"I'm partial to French wine," she said. Real wine was far better than the synth stuff the replicators provided, but she wasn't going to argue the point. She would have to check out the promenade later, when she was off duty.
Handing the woman the synth wine, he took a seat opposite and settled back. "So Brianthe. What can I do for you?"
"I hear we all have to come in to be cleared for duty," she said. "So, I figured I'd come in before you had to remind me." She took a sip of her drink and smiled. It was pretty good.
Liam smiled. He did like it when officers voluntarily came to him and saved him all the chasing. He reminded her of something or someone. And it was bugging him, however there was time to work that out.
"That's nice to hear. Thank you for taking the time to seek me out. So Brianthe, tell me about yourself. How did you end up on DS5?" he asked.
"I'm a botanist. When I heard the station needed someone to run the arboretum, and then saw something about that planet of yours, I had to come here. Fortunately, I convinced the Powers that Be that I was the best person for the job." She smiled and took another sip of tea. "There's so much more I can do on a station. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity."
"That's good to hear, and I am sure when they start letting science teams down to the planet you will be amazed," Liam said. "Have you lived onboard a station before? How are you settling in?"
"No, this is my first time," Brianthe replied. "It's very big. I need to use a PADD to get around. But that just gives me more places to explore when I have some free time."
"Yeah," Liam agreed. "I started on deck 1 of the promonade and have only made it 15 in. Found some great places though. In fact if you do like wine. Real wine theres a nice french bistro on deck 5. You should check it out. The pastries are excellent too."
"Are you making friends? Being sociable?" he asked.
She gave him a wry smile. "Not exactly. I've been wrapped up in my work, I'm afraid."
"Then I would suggest a look at the work/home balance," Liam suggested. "You will burn out if you work all the time and keep to yourself."
"I haven't so far," she said, smiling. "But I understand what you mean. I'll look around the station and see if there's any place that catches my fancy."
"Good plan," Liam nodded. "I don't think I have ever met a Solarian before. Tell me a bit about your culture. If you don't mind?"
"We believe in living close to nature," she said. "Our technology enhances that rather than detracts from it. That's one of the reasons I chose botany."
"I can see that" Liam said. "So any religion or beliefs tied into nature? he probed further.
"There are some who still follow the old ways," she said. "But mostly the very old and those who live in smaller communities. I am not a practitioner, but I have heard the trees whisper in the night as they talk to the breeze." She shrugged. "There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy," she added, quoting Shakespeare.
"Shakespeare fan?" Liam grinned.
Brianthe grinned. "Especially his comedies."
"No one can blame you there," Liam shot her another smile. "Okay one more question. What do you plan to do to make your own stamp on Botany?"
"I'm expanding the arboretum two decks and bringing in a wider variety of flora," she said. "And I want to expand experiments in hydroponics."
"If you need any volunteers, I have two half sisters trying to set up a perfume business. They could do with some experience with varieties of flora," he suggested.
"Really?" Brianthe raised an eyebrow. "That could be interesting--as long as they don't mind getting dirty."
"Lets find out. I'll suggest it to them and if there interested set up a meeting?" he asked.
"Sure. Make it in the arboretum so they can see what they'll be getting into." Better to know what the job entails before agreeing to something and backing out later.
"Agreed," Liam nodded. "Ok I'm going to pass you on the proviso that the next time I walk through the Arbotretum theres an exciting new selection of blooms and other things to muse over. And if you have any issues, mentally I doubt I would be much use in a flower emergency, but you promise to come talk to me again. But also your welcome to come talk to me just to talk socially if you like. Don't be a stranger."
Brianthe grinned. "Definitely." She stood and gave him a proper curtsy. "Thank you, kind sir. See you later." With that she glided out of the room.
